THE MKUZE FALLS GUEST COMMENTS
Wow, wow, wow!! It is everything I was looking for. I am
amazed actually at how I was pressured on the last minute
and honestly had thought I would probably not get from
it what was intended for the weekend. I got more.
Initially I questioned whether the 5 and a half hour
drive was worth it; when we got there, I was very taken
in by the friendly staff waiting on us to arrive, taking
our bags, parking our car, walking us through the lodge
which is not very big - pleasingly intimate, actually.
After being there for a bit, I wondered however what we
were going to do to keep ourselves busy for the weekend… I then realized the magic of Mkuze. Mkuze has created
an ambiance where you stop. Your mind stops rushing and
you stop processing and you just be.
Like clockwork, afternoon drives are at 4, you arrive
back at your lodge at around 7:15 for dinner, where
tables are set up intimately for the small group the
lodge caters to. Morning drives are at 4.30 (eeeeek) but
once we were on the game drive I had already forgotten
what time of the morning it was. When we return, it's
followed by breakfast, whereafter you go have a morning
nap.. and I think that is their trick – we felt like we
had two Saturdays there, because the game drive was so
fulfilling when we woke up from our morning nap on
Saturday it felt as if we were starting a new day again.
We spent the afternoon in the lounge area of the lodge
where friendly, amazing waitrons and bartenders see to
our drinks and just get lost in the unbelievable view
and sounds of everything that surrounds us.
After dinners, we would return to our chalet where
petals had been laid out on the bed and candles were
lit, hot bubble baths where run and a bottle of
champagne waited on ice... the staff are flawless! The
game rangers are such unbelievable people – they are
friendly and knowledgeable and you can see the passion
in what they do. You can see they utterly love taking
out people to show them everything! From tracking, to the
animals, to the birds and fauna, all game drives were
accompanied with us stopping half way through the drive
for drinks and sandwiches and biltong and snack bars and
chips, a great piece of time spent getting to know the
other guests accompanying us. There where Canadians, a
Dutch couple and a German couple.
It isn’t just a little piece of paradise … it’s
almost a time warp.. you lose track of time and day. The
game reserve is MASSIVE. It just didn’t end! All the
game drives we were on was on new tracks – new fauna –
mountains that go on and on. The interaction we had with
the animals… no words. I have never experienced anything
like I did this weekend. My partner, who is renowned for
being rather aware of the better things in life was
The food was the quality you would expect to get from
the likes of the Pivot at Monte or the Sandton towers -
starters, soup, mains, dessert, cheese platter and then
tea or coffee, the food was orgasmic and the portions
perfect taking into consideration the 5 course meal.
What I loved most about Mkuze – actually I loved
everything most, but you get the feeling that you are
home... like you’ve reached your destination... and you
are filled with so much emotion of awe and respect and
perspective and the staff from the waitrons to cleaning
ladies to game rangers to the chef just ooze the love
they have for Mkuze. How passionate they are toward the lodge.
Ten minutes into our first game drive, we were watching
lions mate from less than a metre away, followed by
watching cubs play with their mom. We were on all three
game drives in the centre of a herd of elephants and
babies, we were mock charged by a mommy elephant which
sent an adrenalin rush through me of note! That is about
as real as it gets! As close as it becomes. At the same
time, a lion was standing right behind us, of which I was
more safe with than the ellie flapping her ears at us in
front of us.
We then watched ellies chase off a lion who roared to
keep his stand. We tracked cheetah for over an hour all
the way up a mountain that our game ranger spotted to
begin with from a mountain back!!! It is unbelievable
how those men know those lands like the back of their
hand!! The cheetah was just a once ever opportunity,
We tracked Rhino over three mountains, and eventually
found them - all 19 of them!!!!!!! And spent a good half
hour just steps away from them… I can go on and on and I
am probably forgetting a million things from this but
undoubtedly one of the most amazing experiences of my
life – that I didn’t even consider when booking.
The weather wasn’t HOT and we had our cooler temps –
Saturday we did dinner indoors but Mkuze isn’t weather
dependent! A person could go to Mkuze in the heart of
winter and probably love it perhaps even more, the fire
place in the lounge area is very enticing.
Loved the chalet – loved the outdoor shower!! If I
had anything to put forward moving past me being utterly
in love and still feeling like I’m on honeymoon. Not
only will we reference Mkuze to every one of our friends
we will most certainly be returning!!
Even after trying to give you some kind of insight I
feel like I have given Mkuze some kind of injustice by
just not being able to wrap up what a weekend away with
them actually is!
Have some spectacular pics I will send you one or two.
Thank you so much for your email. We had such a
wonderful time at Mkuze Falls. The weather was not that
great the first two days but we had a wonderful time
nevertheless. We loved all the GAME DRIVES, even the one
where we got drenched from the rain. No one’s fault at
all, just the bush. The lodge was just great!! Staff
exceptional! Food just amazing and everyone just really
friendly and accommodating. Mkuze falls is a local gem, I
tell you! It was a real treat going there.
After chatting to friends and family about the place,
we would really like to go back again. If they
considered the rates for local South Africans, I am
telling you they would be fully booked all the time. We
have a group of 8 adults that would love to go there but
not at their normal rates. Thank you once again for all
your help. - Kind Regards, Tracy
Dear Mkuze Falls staff,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you
for the wonderful time we had at your beautiful reserve.
We had been at Mkuze Falls approximately ten years ago,
and the experience was wonderful. I am glad to say the
time we spent at Mkuze Falls last weekend was even
better - if at all possible. It was the attention to
detail that made our stay exquisite. We felt totally
When we arrived we were met by a knowledgeable person
who gave us all the necessary details regarding our stay,
what to expect and when meals were to be served. Our
bags were taken to our room and our car was taken to a
safe parking. Meals were served on time and the food was
delicious. The selection and freshness of food and
drinks were a surprise as the reserve is located far
from a big town.
The staff was very well trained and they were always
polite and went the extra mile to fulfill any special
requests. The warm water bottles and blankets on the
early game drives were much appreciated. The warm hand
towels and sherry and bubble bath that was awaiting us
after our evening game drives were a pleasant surprise.
The game rangers succeeded in finding the animals we
wanted to see most - for example, porcupine, bush buck,
night owl and most of the big 5.
Our room was beautiful with a stunning view. We were
also surprised with a small welcome gift on our bed when
we arrived. Our time at Mkuze Falls went past too
quickly, but it made us adamant not to wait so long
before we visit Mkuze Falls again. - Kind Regards, Dr. Cathrin Venter
The stay at Mkuze Falls was absolutely

I need to congratulate management on the staff
hospitality and service delivery. Food was great, game
drives enjoyable. Both my husband and I really enjoyed
the weekend and definitely are considering to do it some
Thank you. - Ilse Crous /(Garner)
Firstly, I just want to say a huge Thank You
to you for last Friday. I know it couldn't have been
easy trying to get things organized in the last minute.
So thanks once again.
Mkuze Falls was absolutely
overwhelming! We loved every minute of our stay,
including the storm! Our reception on arrival was
amazing. The staff were very attentive and
accommodating. We did our 2 game drives on Saturday and
were very lucky to see most of the Big 5. My daughter
was thrilled to see the lions close up. She was very sad
that there was not much of a waterfall and that the
animals did not have much water. She promised to never
complain again when it rains :-)
Our dining was
delicious! With my husband being vegetarian, it’s not
often that he's happy with his meals but he loved the
meals prepared for him. Despite his initial complaining
about the distance, he was really impressed with the
lodge and said it was definitely worth the drive. So I'm
sure we will visit again. I promise to let you know at
least a week in advance :-)
Thank you once again!

Thank you for the wonderful experience.
They went out of their way to satisfy us, especially
Norman who did not give up until we saw 99% of the game
that we went there to see. Everything was exceptional.
They accommodated so well for my wife and I being
vegetarian. - Kind regards, Avi,Yasheka, Shivalya and Shiren
I trust this email finds you well.
Even if it’s been a couple of weeks already, Sandra
and myself would like to thank you soooo much for having
us at Mkuze Falls. We felt very welcomed and enjoyed our
time very much, even if it was only for a couple of
hours. The service was excellent, the staff was very
attentive and the food was delicious.
Thanks as well for taking us on a game drive with you
and spoiling us with the suite.
We do hope, that we can send you some business in the
